Solsystemets opbygning kan hurtigt skitseres som f\u00f8lger:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sol - Merkur - Venus - Jorden - Mars<\/strong>\u00a0(asteroideb\u00e6lte)\u00a0<strong>- Jupiter - Saturn - Uranus - Neptun<\/strong>\u00a0(Kuiperb\u00e6ltet inkl. Pluto) - (Oort-skyen) - (heliosf\u00e6ren)<\/p>\n<p>De enkelte elementer diskuteres mere detaljeret nedenfor:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Planeterne i solsystemet:<\/strong>\u00a0Vores solsystem best\u00e5r af 8 planeter (Merkur, Venus, Jorden, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptun) og 5 dv\u00e6rgplaneter (Ceres, Makemake, Haumea, Eris, Pluto) samt tusindvis af asteroider og kometer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Asteroider:<\/strong>\u00a0De fleste asteroider i vores solsystem befinder sig mellem planeterne Mars og Jupiters bane og kaldes simpelthen \"asteroideb\u00e6ltet\".\n<ul>\n<li>Eksperter vurderer, at asteroideb\u00e6ltet mellem Mars og Jupiter indeholder mere end 750.000 asteroider med en diameter p\u00e5 1 km eller mere, samt millioner af mindre asteroider og meteoritter (sten).<\/li>\n<li>Nogle af asteroiderne har baner, der af og til f\u00e5r dem til at kollidere med Jorden eller andre planeter i det indre solsystem.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Comets:<\/strong>\u00a0St\u00f8rstedelen af kometerne i solsystemet er l\u00e6ngere v\u00e6k fra Jorden end Pluto og findes i Kuiperb\u00e6ltet og Oort-skyen.\n<ul>\n<li>Kometer i solsystemet best\u00e5r hovedsageligt af is og sten. N\u00e5r en komet n\u00e6rmer sig solen, smelter noget af isen i dens kerne og bliver til gas, og det er denne gas, der udg\u00f8r kometernes karakteristiske \"haler\".<\/li>\n<li>Kometer inddeles i kort- og langlivede kometer; kortlivede kometer afslutter deres kredsl\u00f8b p\u00e5 mindre end 200 \u00e5r og menes at stamme fra Kuiperb\u00e6ltet, mens langlivede kometer afslutter deres kredsl\u00f8b p\u00e5 over 200 \u00e5r og sandsynligvis kommer fra Oort-skyen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Det indre solsystem:<\/strong>\u00a0De 4 planeter t\u00e6ttest p\u00e5 solen - Merkur, Venus, Jorden og Mars - er s\u00e5kaldte 'klippeplaneter' (ogs\u00e5 kaldet stenplaneter, jordplaneter eller terrestriske planeter), fordi de alle har faste klippeoverflader. Disse planeter kaldes ogs\u00e5 'det indre solsystem'.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Det ydre solsystem:<\/strong>\u00a0De 4 st\u00f8rste planeter l\u00e6ngere v\u00e6k fra solen end Mars - dvs. Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus og Neptun - er s\u00e5kaldte 'gask\u00e6mper' (ogs\u00e5 kaldet gasplaneter eller jovianske planeter), fordi de ikke har en fast overflade, men i stedet prim\u00e6rt best\u00e5r af gas. Disse planeter kaldes ogs\u00e5 'det ydre solsystem'.\n<ul>\n<li>Planeterne i det ydre solsystem best\u00e5r prim\u00e6rt af brint og helium, hvilket g\u00f8r deres sammens\u00e6tning meget lig solens. Nogle forskere mener, at planeterne kan have faste kerner. Derudover har de ringe, der indeholder st\u00f8v, sten og is. Disse elementer varierer meget i st\u00f8rrelse, fra st\u00f8vkorn til blokke p\u00e5 st\u00f8rrelse med et hus.<\/li>\n<li>Saturn har de st\u00f8rste og mest fremtr\u00e6dende ringe blandt planeterne i vores solsystem - men Jupiter, Uranus og Neptun har ogs\u00e5 ringe.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Magnetiske felter:<\/strong>\u00a0De fleste planeter i vores solsystem har magnetfelter omkring sig (en s\u00e5kaldt \"magnetosf\u00e6re\"). Solen har ogs\u00e5 et magnetfelt (heliosf\u00e6ren), som omfatter hele vores solsystem.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>M\u00e5ner:<\/strong>\u00a0N\u00e6sten alle planeterne i vores solsystem - og nogle af m\u00e5nerne - har atmosf\u00e6rer. Men de kemiske stoffer, der findes i de enkelte atomkugler, varierer meget, og atmosf\u00e6rernes opf\u00f8rsel (p\u00e5 grund af forskelle i planeternes baner) er ogs\u00e5 forskellig. For eksempel kollapser Plutos atmosf\u00e6re, n\u00e5r Pluto kredser langt v\u00e6k fra solen. Atmosf\u00e6ren gendannes, n\u00e5r planeten n\u00e6rmer sig solen. Dette f\u00e6nomen ses mest hos kometer\n<ul>\n<li>Der er 166 kendte m\u00e5ner i vores solsystem.
