Lorsqu'Uranus ne s'est pas d\u00e9plac\u00e9e comme pr\u00e9vu, Urbain Joseph Le Verrier (math\u00e9maticien fran\u00e7ais) et John Couch Adams (math\u00e9maticien et astronome anglais) ont ind\u00e9pendamment pr\u00e9dit que la d\u00e9viation \u00e9tait due \u00e0 la pr\u00e9sence d'une autre plan\u00e8te.<\/p>\n<p>Adams envoie ses d\u00e9couvertes \u00e0 l'astronome George B. Airy en Angleterre. Airy en Angleterre, qui n'a pas trouv\u00e9 (et peut-\u00eatre pas cherch\u00e9) la plan\u00e8te. Par cons\u00e9quent, Adams n'a jamais publi\u00e9 ses d\u00e9couvertes.<\/p>\n<p>Le Verrier a contact\u00e9 plusieurs astronomes fran\u00e7ais contemporains, mais tous ont rejet\u00e9 sa d\u00e9couverte. Il a donc envoy\u00e9 ses pr\u00e9dictions \u00e0 l'astronome allemand Johann Gottfried Galle, qui a trouv\u00e9 Neptune la premi\u00e8re nuit de sa recherche, le 23 septembre 1846 (la date officielle de la d\u00e9couverte est le 24 septembre 1846, car Neptune a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9couverte dans la nuit du 23 au 24 septembre 1846). Toutefois, les cercles astronomiques internationaux de l'\u00e9poque ne l'ont pas accept\u00e9 et la plan\u00e8te a \u00e9t\u00e9 nomm\u00e9e en l'honneur du dieu romain de la mer, Neptune. Aujourd'hui, la d\u00e9couverte de Neptune est attribu\u00e9e aux trois d\u00e9couvreurs (Le Verrier, Adams et Galle).<\/p>\n<h2>Observations pr\u00e9c\u00e9dentes de Neptune<\/h2>\n<p>Galil\u00e9e a \u00e9t\u00e9 le premier \u00e0 observer Neptune en 1612, mais il croyait que la plan\u00e8te \u00e9tait une \u00e9toile et l'a enregistr\u00e9e comme telle. L'observation de Neptune par Galil\u00e9e ne peut donc pas \u00eatre consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme une v\u00e9ritable \"d\u00e9couverte\" de la plan\u00e8te.<\/p>\n<p>Parmi les autres premiers observateurs de Neptune, citons J\u00e9r\u00f4me Lalande en 1795 et John Herschel en 1830 ; mais comme Galil\u00e9e, aucun n'a qualifi\u00e9 Neptune de plan\u00e8te. La plus grande lune de Neptune, Triton, est d\u00e9couverte la m\u00eame ann\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1984:<\/strong>\u00a0Des astronomes trouvent des preuves de l'existence d'un syst\u00e8me d'anneaux autour de Neptune.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1989:<\/strong>\u00a0Voyager 2 sera le premier et le seul vaisseau spatial \u00e0 visiter Neptune. Voyager 2 passera \u00e0 environ 4 800 km au-dessus du p\u00f4le nord de la plan\u00e8te.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1998:<\/strong>\u00a0Les scientifiques utilisent des t\u00e9lescopes terrestres et spatiaux pour obtenir pour la premi\u00e8re fois une image des anneaux et des arcs de Neptune.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2003:<\/strong>\u00a0Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des techniques d'observation am\u00e9lior\u00e9es, les astronomes d\u00e9couvrent 5 nouvelles lunes en orbite autour de Neptune.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2005:<\/strong>\u00a0Les scientifiques utilisent l'observatoire Keck pour imager les anneaux les plus \u00e9loign\u00e9s de Neptune et d\u00e9couvrent que certains des arcs sont en train de se d\u00e9sint\u00e9grer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2011:<\/strong>\u00a0Neptune ach\u00e8ve sa premi\u00e8re orbite de 165 ans autour du soleil depuis sa d\u00e9couverte en 1846.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2013:<\/strong>\u00a0Un scientifique \u00e9tudiant les arcs des anneaux de Neptune avec le t\u00e9lescope Hubble d\u00e9couvre une 14e lune inconnue en orbite autour de Neptune (la lune \u00e9tait auparavant d\u00e9sign\u00e9e S\/2004 N 1).<\/p>\n<h2>Exploration<\/h2>\n<p>Le seul engin spatial \u00e0 avoir visit\u00e9 et explor\u00e9 Neptune est Voyager 2, qui s'y est rendu en 1989. Depuis, l'am\u00e9lioration g\u00e9n\u00e9rale des t\u00e9lescopes a contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 la d\u00e9couverte d'autres lunes, ce qui peut \u00e9galement \u00eatre consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme une forme d'exploration de la plan\u00e8te. Toutefois, les seuls projets de visite de Neptune sont ceux de la mission \"Neptune Orbiter\" de la NASA, qui devrait \u00eatre lanc\u00e9e en 2016 et arriver 14 ans plus tard, en 2030.
