About Elvis Presley
American musician and actor Elvis Aaron Presley (January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977), also known simply as Elvis, was born in the United States. He is acknowledged as one of the most influential cultural leaders of the 20th century and is known as the “King of Rock and Roll”. Presley experienced both immense success and at first controversy due to his energizing interpretations of songs and sexually suggestive performing style, as well as a particularly potent blend of influences across color lines during a transitional period in race relations.
When Presley was 13 years old, his family moved from Tupelo, Mississippi, to Memphis, Tennessee. Presley was born there. There, in 1954, he began his musical career by recording for Sun Records with the producer Sam Phillips, who aimed to popularize the sound of African-American music. Rockabilly is a fast-paced, backbeat-driven mix of country music and rhythm and blues, and Presley was a pioneer of the genre while playing rhythm acoustic guitar with lead guitarist Scotty Moore and bassist Bill Black. D. J. Fontana joined the Presley classic quartet and RCA in 1955 to complete the group. Colonel Tom Parker, who would oversee Victor for more than two decades, brokered the agreement that gave him his contract. “Heartbreak Hotel,” Presley’s debut RCA song, debuted at number one in the US charts in January 1956. RCA would sell 10 million Presley singles in a year. Presley rose to prominence as the face of the newly popular rock and roll sound through a string of well-received network television appearances and number-one singles, despite the fact that his performative approach and support of the then-marginalized sound of African Americans led to him being widely viewed as a danger to the moral development of young white Americans.
Presley made his film debut with Love Me Tender in November 1956. In 1958, he was drafted into the military and returned to recording two years later with some of his most commercially successful music. Presley performed sparingly, though, and under Parker’s direction, he spent the most of the 1960s working on soundtrack recordings and Hollywood movies, the majority of which received negative reviews. Jailhouse Rock (1957), Blue Hawaii (1961), and Viva Las Vegas (1964) were some of his most well-known movies. After a seven-year hiatus from live performances, he had a triumphant television comeback in 1968 with Elvis, which paved the way for a lengthy residency of concerts in Las Vegas and a series of extremely lucrative tours. Presley performed Aloha from Hawaii in 1973, the first solo artist concert to be aired globally. Presley’s health was seriously harmed by years of prescription drug misuse and poor eating patterns, and at the age of 42, he passed away unexpectedly at his Graceland home in 1977.
One of the most successful musicians of all time, Presley has sold almost 500 million records worldwide. He enjoyed commercial success in a variety of genres, including gospel, pop, country, rhythm & blues, and adult contemporary. He was inducted into several music halls of fame, won three Grammy Awards, and was presented with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award at the age of 36. He also holds records for the most albums with RIAA gold or platinum certification, the most albums to chart on the Billboard 200, the most albums by a solo artist to reach number one on the UK Albums Chart, and the most number-one singles by any act to reach number one on the UK Singles Chart. Presley received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2018 after his passing.
