About Sylvester Stallone in the 1970s, 1980s & 1990s

From 1978 to 1999, Sylvester Stallone achieved substantial success in the film industry. He began by directing and starring in “Paradise Alley” (1978) and featured in “F.I.S.T.” the same year. In 1979, he wrote, directed, and starred in “Rocky II,” which became a major success, grossing $200 million. Stallone continued with films like “Escape to Victory” (1981), “First Blood” (1982), and “Rocky III” (1982), dedicating himself to intense physical training for these roles.

In the 1980s, he rivaled Arnold Schwarzenegger as an action film star. Stallone ventured into different genres with mixed results, including the comedy “Rhinestone” (1984). He maintained his success with “Rocky IV” and “Rambo: First Blood Part II” in 1985. Stallone was set to remake “Angels With Dirty Faces” in 1985 but opted for “Cobra,” which became a box-office hit, leading to the creation of his production company.

In 1987, he appeared in “Over the Top,” a family drama that didn’t fare well critically or financially. However, he found success with “Tango & Cash” (1989) and ventured into boxing promotion.

The 1990s saw Stallone’s return in “Rocky V” (1990), followed by a series of films with mixed reception, such as “Oscar” (1991) and “Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot” (1992). He made a comeback with “Cliffhanger” (1993) and “Demolition Man” (1993). Stallone also starred in “The Specialist” (1994) and “Judge Dredd” (1995). Despite some box-office disappointments, he signed a lucrative deal with Universal Pictures.

In 1996, he appeared in “Daylight,” which underperformed domestically but performed better overseas. Stallone took on a different role as an overweight sheriff in “Cop Land” (1997), earning critical acclaim. In 1998, he did voice-over work for “Antz.”
